Ben Lapidus
Ben Lapidus is a Los Angeles-based musical comedian, songwriter, performer, and Webby-nominated sound designer whose work blends absurdist comedy with surprisingly serious musicianship. His songs pull from hardcore punk, metalcore, emo rap, pop-punk, country, and alternative music, often turning everyday subjects into huge, emotionally charged anthems.
Originally from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, Lapidus began writing songs as a teenager before moving to New York City to study at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, where he earned a degree in songwriting and production.
Lapidus reached a national audience in 2022 on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent with his now-infamous “Parmesan Cheese Song.” After initially receiving four buzzers from the judges, the live audience embraced the song so enthusiastically that several judges reversed course and sent him forward in the competition. The performance became one of the season’s most memorable viral moments.
Beyond his solo work, Lapidus created the music for and performed in the Off-Broadway musical Pop Punk High, later expanding that world into the fiction-comedy musical podcast Who Killed Avril Lavigne?
His online work has continued to attract a large audience through a mix of heavy guitar breakdowns, pop hooks, satire, and obsessive investigations into completely ordinary subjects.
