Rageflower – Push Pin

Description

RAGEFLOWER (musician)

RAGEFLOWER is the musical moniker and solo alternative project of Sydney-based singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Madeleine “Mads” Powers. Emerging in the early 2020s, the project is characterized by its signature blend of alternative rock, indie-grunge, dream-pop, and theatrical “art music”. Her lyrical style frequently tackles heavy thematic landscapes, including emotional trauma, personal accountability, and feminine rage.

Genres and Musical Style
The musical profile of RAGEFLOWER is highly versatile, resisting strict categorization by blending heavy instrumentation with delicate vocal melodies. Her work is primarily categorized within the following genres:
    • Alternative Rock (Alt-Rock): The overarching framework of her music, defined by guitar-driven arrangements, traditional rock band structures, and an independent, non-mainstream production ethos.
    • Indie Grunge / Post-Grunge: Heavily utilized in tracks like “PUSH PIN”, this style features the distorted, fuzzy guitars and raw, Angsty vocal deliveries reminiscent of 1990s grunge rock bands like Nirvana and Garbage [palisadeweekly.com].
    • Dream-Pop: Evident in the ambient, atmospheric synth-pads, layered vocal harmonies, and echoing reverb found in the softer sections of her tracks, drawing comparisons to bands like Wolf Alice.
    • Art-Pop / Art-Rock: Characterized by her unconventional song structures, theatrical vocal deliveries, and the integration of highly stylized visual art concepts alongside her musical releases.

Early Life and Formation
Powers was active in the local Sydney music scene playing in collaborative group bands. Citing frustrations over a lack of creative agency in male-dominated environments, she stepped away from a potential career track to return to university and work a public government sector job.
Following an extended hiatus to focus on her mental health, Powers established RAGEFLOWER as a self-directed creative vehicle where she could control all writing and visual production. She has cited artists such as Boygenius, Muna, Wolf Alice, and early-2000s alternative icons Bright Eyes and Avril Lavigne as central influences on her sonic trajectory.

Musical Career
2022–2025: Early Singles and Infinite Highs, End of Times
RAGEFLOWER officially launched in March 2022 with her debut indie-pop-rock single, “Still Calling”. The track garnered immediate play on prominent Australian community and national broadcasters, including triple j Unearthed. This was followed by the self-reflective art-rock single “Years” later that July.
On August 21, 2025, she released her debut 7-track Extended Play (EP) titled INFINITE HIGHS, END OF TIMES, co-written and produced alongside producers Nico Scali and Ben “Jnr.” Siva. Centered on what Powers called “the transformative quality of suffering,” the EP produced the breakthrough single “DESK JOB” and led to a sold-out debut headline show at The Vanguard in Newtown.
2026: Twinstar Era
In mid-2026, Powers announced her second studio EP, TWINSTAR, scheduled for release on August 7, 2026. Described as a conceptual exploration of shadow work and human polarity, the EP’s rollout featured heavily aesthetic music videos for the tracks “CONTROL” and her June 2026 single “I DON’T BELIEVE IN LOVE”.
