“Nighttime Routine” is a 2026 single by Frankfurt, Germany hardcore punk band The Pill. Released on August 26, 2026 through Sounds of Subterrania, the track is the first single from the band’s second album, I Need To Be A Weapon, scheduled for release November 6, 2026. The recording was produced, recorded and mixed at Studio 48 by Michel Wern.
Running barely more than a minute, “Nighttime Routine” combines hardcore intensity, punk-rock hooks and The Pill’s direct, confrontational style. Lyrically, the song takes aim at beauty routines, self-optimization, body image, money and the pressure to continually alter, market and perfect oneself.

The Pill’s sound is rooted in early-1980s California hardcore, especially the fast, stripped-down attack associated with bands such as Black Flag and Circle Jerks, but they also work in melody, alternative rock and some post-hardcore elements. Their own Bandcamp tags include punk, alternative, hardcore and hardcore punk.
Backstory
The Pill are a hardcore punk band from Frankfurt, Germany, built from musicians with deep roots in the city’s punk and hardcore scene. Guitarists Philipp and Tobias, bassist Jan and drummer Sascha had played in bands including Superfan, The Monochords, Water Breaks Stone and Coach and had spent years touring and making records. Around 2020, the four longtime friends began playing together again simply because they wanted to make music.
The missing piece was a vocalist. After considering remaining an instrumental band, they made one more attempt to find a singer through an online musician-matching platform, using #blackflag as their musical shorthand. That connection brought them Sam, whose singing, screaming and lyrics completed the lineup.
The Pill began playing shows in 2023, including appearances at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival and Berlin’s SO36. Their debut album, Hollywood Smile, followed in April 2024 on Sounds of Subterrania, delivering ten songs in roughly twenty minutes and combining old-school hardcore energy with contemporary songwriting and social commentary.
In 2026, The Pill returned with “Nighttime Routine,” the first single from their second album, I Need To Be A Weapon. The 63-second track continues the group’s short, confrontational approach while taking aim at beauty culture, self-optimization and the pressure to constantly remake oneself.
